K&R Somerville Concrete ConstructionK&R Somerville Concrete Construction

A Somerville concrete contractor since 2013

Here's who's behind K&R Somerville Concrete Construction, what we care about on every pour, and what happens after you call us.

Fresh concrete driveway divided into rectangular sections in front of a white garage, with a utility trailer beside it.

Why I came back to pouring concrete

I poured concrete in my twenties, then spent a good stretch of years away from the trade. I came back in 2013 and started K&R Somerville Concrete Construction because I missed building things that stay put. Coming back later meant relearning the work slowly and carefully, next to people who'd never left it, and I still work at that pace.

Concrete is hard to undo, so I'd rather spend the extra time on what's underneath than come back to a problem later. That means digging out and packing the subgrade the slab sits on, not raking the dirt level, because a slab on loose dirt settles right along with it. Nobody sees the base on day one, and it's usually the first thing people want to cut from a budget. I'd cut the fancy finish first. I also want you to understand the plan before we pour, because you're the one living with it.

Most of our calls come from homeowners and small landlords in Somerville and the cities around it, and we're best known for driveways, steps, patios and foundation work on tight city lots. On lots like these we plan truck access, parking and the neighbors before pour day, and we leave the site cleaner than we found it, so you're still on good terms next door. We're fully licensed and insured, and you can see everything we build from our home page.

What you can count on from our concrete crew

One person from estimate to pour

I come out to look at your property myself and stay on the job through the last pour, so nothing you told me at the estimate gets lost before the work starts.

Water planned before forms go in

We work out where the rain will run before we set a single form, so your new driveway, walk or patio sends water away from the house instead of toward it.

City paperwork sorted out early

Somerville requires a building permit for almost all house work besides painting, tiling and flooring, so we check with the city's building office before we settle the plan and keep things moving.

How a concrete job with us goes

  1. Call or send the form

Call (617) 284-0921 or fill out the form on our contact page, and tell us what you've got, whether that's a sinking walk, a cracked driveway or new steps. We reply to every call and message within one business day.

  2. I come out and measure

Estimates are free, done on site and come with no pressure to book. I look at the job, measure, talk the plan through with you until it makes sense, and then send you the estimate.

  3. Permits, then our crew pours

When the paperwork is ours to file, we file it, and when it's yours, we tell you what to bring. Then our crew digs, forms, pours and finishes, and I stay on the job until it's done.

Where our concrete crew works

We're based in Somerville and pour driveways, steps and slabs in the cities listed here, along with others nearby. If your city isn't on the list, give us a call and ask.
